Study, Service, Prayer
Visitation Companions are individuals who choose to deepen their commitment to the ministry of the Visitation Monastery through prayer, study of Salesian spirituality, and regular service. Visitation Companions seek to extend the Salesian charism both on the Northside and in their own walks of life.
A nine-month period of formation includes monthly small group meetings in which prospective Companions study and pray with the writings of St. Francis de Sales, St. Jane de Chantal, and Salesian scholars as they reflect on their own spiritual journeys. Visitation Companions then welcome new members in a commitment ceremony.
Currently, women and men of diverse ages and faith traditions from all over the Twin Cities are Companions. For the 2017-2018 year, they are leading the Salesian 2nd Monday Nights, a monthly community night where they guide 30-40 friends in deepening their understanding of Salesian spirituality. They also pursue individual service projects based on their personal interests; for instance, Nancy helps Sr. Mary Frances organize outreach events. Companions usually meet in monthly sub-groups at the following times:
9:30-11:00 AM on the first Wednesday of the month (immediately after Mass at the monastery), or
2:30-4:00 PM on the third Sunday of the month
There are some exceptions, including months where they meet as a large group for social interaction and in May & December when they enjoy group retreats.
