In the “Conference on Hope” , Saint Francis de Sales exhorts the early Visitandines “to go here and there into various places that others may have life, an abundant life…” Our experience of “Living Jesus” on the North Side continues to witness to the significance of cultivating relationships, acting as a bridge between those who have and those who have nothing. We are present here as a lived experience of “reverse mission”:
-
an island of gentleness in the midst of violence,
-
gathering a wide circle of friends together in faith, hope and love,
-
fostering reflection with those who work with the poor.
Gustavo Gutirrez, a renowned Latin American Theologian, expresses his belief that justice can only be done authentically in the context of SPIRITUALITY, LOVE & COMMUNITY. These are strong characteristics of our Visitation Charism, and they are ones that we offer today. Violence & chaos characterize much of contemporary society. Visitation presence in the midst of such dissolution will bring prayer, gentleness and freedom of spirit which fosters living the motto of our Order:
LIVE + JESUS!
